Cucumber Fusion from 52Teas

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Green & Oolong

Where to Buy:  52Teas

Product Description:

This week, we have a fusion of premium green teas and oolongs blended with freeze-dried cucumber bits and natural cucumber flavor. A real refreshing taste of spring. These “savory” teas have been going really fast, so don’t miss out on this one. When it’s gone, it’s GONE.

Taster’s Review:

In February 2010, 52Teas released a Cucumber Melon tea that turned out to be my first experience with cucumber flavored teas.  I was quite impressed with that particular tea, so I was quick to order this tea when it was announced in April of this year.

This tea tastes so refreshing and light.  It tastes like spring!  It really does.  It is fresh and crisp, like the crispness of the air and the fresh sense of life that follows the cold of winter.

The tea base is an Oolong and green tea base.  The Oolong gives the cup a smooth, silky texture, while the green tea adds a fresh, lightly grassy taste that melds very well with the savory cucumber tones.  There is a slight sweetness to the cup, but I would say that it is more savory than sweet.

It is difficult to describe the flavor of this one, because how does one really describe the flavor of a cucumber?  Yes, I can taste the cucumber, and it is distinct, but, it isn’t a strong or in-your-face kind of flavor.  But then, the flavor of a cucumber isn’t really in your face either.  It is a mellow flavor – very delicate – it’s a perfectly serene kind of tea that is sure to instill a sense of peace even after the most hectic of days.

As I write this, I am sipping it hot, but, I find it even more refreshing as an iced tea.  The savoriness of the cucumber really emerges when iced, making for a cool, crisp drink that satisfies my thirst.

Lemon-Lime Cheesecake Honeybush from 52Teas

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Honeybush

Where to Buy:  52Teas

Product Description:

I think it’s about time for another Honeybush blend, and not just any honeybush blend, but a CHEESECAKE honeybush blend. I fully expect this blend is going to be every bit as popular or more popular than our Coconut Cheesecake Honeybush, so don’t drag your feet about ordering this one; I used up the LAST of our honeybush creating it, and I’m still waiting on my supplier–whose shipment is stuck in customs at the moment.

We’ve blended our organic caffeine-free African honeybush with organic lemon myrtle, some marigold petals and all natural flavors to create a truly mouth-watering batch of deliciousness. The scent of this blend alone is enough to send some folks into paroxysms of joy, but the flavor is beyond stunning. Hot or iced, this is a serious TREAT.

Taster’s Review:

OK, by now it’s no secret that I love 52Teas.  But I think it goes a little further than that.  I am addicted to 52Teas, and Frank is my dealer.  Frank and his tea company, 52Teas, is total tea awesomeness!  And this Lemon-Lime Cheesecake Honeybush is absolute deliciousness!

I can’t recall ever actually tasting a lemon-lime cheesecake.  But, here, I can taste the lemon and the lime.  I can taste the cheesecake.  And I can even taste the buttery pastry.  The nutty sweet honeybush marries perfectly with the flavors to complete the cheesecake-like profile.  This is what lemon-lime cheesecake SHOULD taste like.

YUM!

As I write this, there are only 4 pouches of this tisane left in stock… I highly recommend getting some before they run out!

On the 6th Day of Christmas … from 52Teas

I can’t believe that there is less than a week until Christmas!  Are you ready for it?  I’m not!

I still have TONS of shopping left to do.

But… ready or not, the holiday is coming.

One thing I am ready for is to find out what tea is waiting for me inside this pouch!

The sixth tea of Christmas is…

BLACK CURRANT BAI MU DAN

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  White

Where to Buy:  52Teas

Product Description:

Sometimes I think white tea is not as much fun as the others. It’s such a delicate and subtle flavor to begin with that it doesn’t lend itself to things like chocolate peanut butter cup. What DOES pair well with it are nice sweet fruits, like black currant.

Chelsea, my faithful sidekick insists that our black currant papaya green tea is great for taking baths in. She says it makes her smell good and it leaves her skin feeling softer. Clearly, I’m not one to take a bath in our teas, but I have to admit that it’s pretty sexy to think of Chelsea taking a bath in them. (Sorry Sheri).

Anyway, (and before I get myself in too much trouble) whether you drink it or bathe in it, I think you are going to find this tea amazing. We actually doubled up on the amount of real black currants in this blend and it is delicious.

Taster’s Review:

This tea was released on “White Tea Week” (and maybe Frank should make White Tea Week an annual tradition!) during the week of February 22, 2010.  The reason it was White Tea Week is that three different white teas were released in the same week.  I ended up ordering all three teas, and this one ended up being one of my favorites, even though it was the one of which I was probably the most skeptical.

You can read my first review of this tea here, and even though I have tasted this one before, I am really glad to receive more in this 12 Days of Christmas package, because it really is an excellent tea.

The white tea tastes fresh and smooth.  The black currant has a sweet, wine-like flavor that melds perfectly with the Bai Mu Dan base.

Fruity and delicious!  I love this one!  Of all the teas that I’ve purchased from 52Teas, this is the one that I can remember disappearing the fastest.  That is… I couldn’t STOP drinking it until it was gone!  That’s how much I love this tea!

I only made a small amount to sip as a hot tea for this review, because I want to save the rest for iced tea… as good as this is hot, it’s even better iced!   This is definitely my favorite iced tea!

Tasters Review:

Okay…so…both Anne and I have reviewed this tea, briefly, over at Steepster and I thought I would post my official review today here at SororiTEA Sisters because I had a cup yesterday and two cups so far today and seemed to be craving this more and more lately.

Let me start off by saying…I LOVE CHEESECAKE.  I’m not much of a dessert person, overall, but I do LOVE Cheesecake!  And I like chocolate, sure, but I can’t say I must have chocolate everyday like some people do.  On the other hand I HAVE been searching for good, solid, true Chocolaty tasting teas and I must say – this is one of them!

I also must put on the table – this statement – I prefer this DECAF Version of this than the regular offering by 52 Teas.  I am pointing this out for several reasons!  One…I don’t think I have ever enjoyed a Decaf version better than the regular version.  Sometimes I feel they are pretty “even-steven” but rarely – if ever – do I find them MUCH better tasting – if you know what I mean!?  Another reason is the difference in actual taste between the two versions and how noticeable the tastes are.  And third – those taste differences being – mainly – the taste of the chocolate and the taste of the cheesecake-likeness!

Now…on to the actual tasting notes for this tea…

Prior to infusion this smells just like a Chocolate Cheesecake WOULD or SHOULD.  The taste is not as spicy – which I like for a chocolate cheesecake type.  After spending some time with this tea I found by doubling the amount – but not the infusion length (per say) – I could taste both the chocolate and the cheesecake flavors MORE and I prefer it that way, actually.  The Chocolate Flavors are sweet and sugary and milky.  The Cheesecake is fairly cheesecake-like and almost frothy-tasting…creamy!  The chai spices are present but more in the background.  I will say that if you are specifically looking for those chai spices – try a 2nd infusion on this one!  I did and it wasn’t bad at all!

This is not only a tea – but a piece of ART.  I LOVE it!

Strawberry Zabaglione Tea from 52 Teas

Tea Type: Black Tea

Where To Buy: 52 Teas

Product Description:

This was a suggestion from one of our customers, and I spent an hour digging through my email folders and searching our facebook page, but I couldn’t find the original suggestion anywhere, so I couldn’t put his or her name on the blend.

Anyway, when I first got the suggestion, I realized I was going to have to MAKE some Zabaglione to try, because not only had I not tried it before, but I had never HEARD of it before. Well after trying it (for those of you who never have, I would say it is something like a custardy (flavor, not texture) whipped cream with a hint of wine. After trying it, I was not at all sure that we would be able to make a tea that hinted of the complexity of Zabaglione, but after some trial and error, we now have…

Our Tea of the Week for the week of May 31, 2010

Tasters Review:

I’ve now had two separate tries with this tea and here is what I have found…

For my first attempt…

I found this to be very VERY nice!  It’s very creamy and a lovely Strawberry taste without being tart or fake tasting!  There is a a bit of fruit, a bit of wine, and lots of cream! Ahhhhhh!

My second go-around was just as pleasing!  Yes, the strawberry is still there and is juicy and plump in flavor but this time around I picked up more on the wine-likeness and it was a beautiful thing!  And the cream was perfect and more towards the end of the sip!  Truly unique!

All good things must come to an end – and so has this tea in my stash.  I’m officially putting this one on my re-order list because it’s a goodie!!!
