On The Third Day of Christmas, Della Terra Teas Sent Me This Tea…

It’s the third day already!  Christmas is almost here!  Wow!

Without further ado, I will go right into today’s tea, because it’s a good one!

Peppermint Perfection

Day3Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Black

Where to Buy:  Della Terra Teas

Tea Description:

On the third day of Christmas we have ourselves some French hens.  Well, that is fine of course, but wouldn’t you rather have a cup of some amazing peppermint tea?

Well, here it is!  Peppermint Perfection, pure vanilla and peppermint create this creamy, peppermint-y tea!

Taster’s Review:

I couldn’t find this tea on Della Terra Teas’ website, but I did find their Peppermint Bark tea, and I thought that they might be the same tea, so I contacted Della Terra Teas to find out!  (And may I just say that the customer service at Della Terra Teas is top notch!  They get back to me via email promptly whenever I have an issue.  I like that in a company.)

I asked them whether or not the Peppermint Perfection and the Peppermint Bark teas were the same teas, and here is what they told me:

Actually, though similar, the peppermint perfection has one part more vanilla than the peppermint bark.

That’s really about the only difference other than maybe just a wee bit more mint flake.

So, this tea is similar to the Peppermint Bark, which is formerly known as Candy Cane Lane.  So let’s find out how much the additional vanilla and a wee bit more mint flake changes things up, shall we?

Mmm!  This is really good.  The aroma of the dry leaf is reminiscent of the aforementioned Candy Cane Lane, although I think that the extra vanilla seems to enhance the chocolate-y fragrance just a tad, because I could really smell the chocolate when I opened the pouch this time.

And I can really taste the chocolate too.  There is a delicious concinnity of chocolate and vanilla to this cup, and the peppermint is strong without overpowering the cup.  The black tea is a little less represented than the flavors here, but, I find that as the tea cools slightly, that I’m picking up on more black tea notes.  Everything balances out very well.

This is a tea that certainly benefits from a few moments to allow the tea to cool slightly.  The flavors become more distinct after about three minutes of cool time.  It’s still a tea that I prefer to drink hot (just not straight from the teapot hot!) and it’s a perfect tea for this time of year.

This was one of my oldest daughter’s favorite teas from last year’s box (well, the Candy Cane Lane was!) so I am happy that a new version of it was included in this year’s box so that I can share some more of this tea with her.

On The Second Day of Christmas, Della Terra Teas Sent To Me…

The holidays are my favorite time of year.  And, for me, it’s not just about the decorations and the gift-giving and time for family – oh those things are very important to me – but there’s also a part of me that can’t deny that it’s also about the TEA!  Hot tea just tastes better when the weather is cooler, and I love how so many tea companies out there offer special teas to celebration!

And sometimes, you happen across a company like Della Terra Teas that offers a whole collection of 12 teas to count down the 12 Days of Christmas!

InsideBox
This is the JOY that awaited me when I opened this year’s box of 12 days of Tea!

When I opened the pouch of this tea, I recognized the scent immediately. It smelled like red-hots!  Many tea companies out there offer a tea similar to this one … but don’t mistake that comment as my way of saying that if you’ve tried one, you’ve tried them all.  I’ve found that as it is with most things in life, some of the cinnamon-y holiday teas are better than others.

This is one of the better tasting ones I’ve tried.  It’s sweet and hot, but, I like that the spice is not overwhelming my palate.  I like that it’s not as much like the “red hot” candy as some others that I’ve tried (I like those as well, but, it’s nice to have a more subtle approach to that candy taste too.)  This tastes like someone took a few red hots and dissolved them in my tea, rather than like someone liquefied a couple of handfuls of red hots and mixed them with a quarter cup of tea.  There is more tea to be tasted in this cup than candy-like sweetness, and that’s got me smiling.

But there is something else that makes this chai-like tea different.  In place of the strong, orange-y flavor that is often part of a holiday tea like this, there is vanilla!  The vanilla adds a hint of sweetness and a touch of creaminess that gives the cup a sort of “latte” kind of taste without the dairy.

The black tea offers a nice, solid background of rich flavor, while the notes of cinnamon, ginger, cloves and the creamy vanilla tantalize my taste buds.  Every once in a while, I can swear that I taste that aforementioned orange-y note, and I’m not sure if it’s just that my taste buds are playing games with me because I’m used to tasting that kiss of citrus in this type of blend, or if it’s actually there.  But, I like the way it all comes together.

As I write this review, it is cold and wet outside – we had a bit of snow earlier this week, it’s all melted now, but now it’s wet! – but this tea is warming me up from the inside and working it’s way to the outside, that the chill of the outside doesn’t bother me.  I’m happy as I sip this tea!

On The First Day of Christmas, Della Terra Teas Sent To Me …

Wow!  Can you believe that it’s already December 14th, people?  Well, every year, I do a 12 days of Christmas Teas countdown, and this year, I’m not just doing one countdown … but two!  However, my second countdown will start a little late because … I haven’t yet received that package!  Hopefully it will arrive sometime today so that I will only be behind by one day.  Who knows, maybe I’ll do the second 12 Days of Christmas batch starting on Christmas Day … and continue through the 11 days that follow.

FestiveBox
The box that was inside the brown paper packaging!
Isn’t it cute!

In the meantime, it’s time to get my Della Terra Teas 12 Days of Christmas Tea countdown started!  The box arrived wrapped in brown paper, and when I tore away the paper, I saw the beautiful box!  I love the packaging that Della Terra Teas uses for their countdown – it’s a gift in itself.

Inside the box is an array of twelve festive “goody” bags tied off with tags to indicate which day the bag is for, and inside each bag is the secret tea of the day.  Today’s tea is:

Spiced Pear

Tea Description:

On the first day of Christmas something delicious was given to me, and that was a Spiced Pear tea!

On this first day of your 12 Days of Christmas, please sit back and enjoy a cup of this delightful, spiced pear tea that is exclusive to the sets of twelve!  What a way to start!

Taster’s Review:

Last Year’s “first day of Christmas Tea” was also a pear tea, but, I was certainly not disappointed to find another pear tea as this year’s first tea.  I love pear teas!  And I was especially happy to see that this is one of the exclusive to the holiday countdown box teas – I LOVE that Della Terra Teas does this!  It might not seem like a big deal but it makes the whole countdown box seem that much more special when there’s exclusive teas in it, you know?

Ahhh … this Spiced Pear Tea from Della Terra Teas is nice!  When the tea first finished brewing, it looked a little “light” in color in my glass teapot.  I was worried that it wasn’t going to be flavorful enough.  But it’s just right.  I can taste the sweet pear notes, the spice tones and the black tea in the background.  It’s a nicely rounded tea.

The pear flavor is strong here and as has often been my complaint when it comes to pear teas, there is often just not enough pear flavor to satisfy me!  I love pears, but because it is kind of a delicate tasting fruit it is sometimes difficult for the right flavor to be captured in a tea, especially one with a black tea base like this.

So, now that I think about it, perhaps it was a good thing that the tea looked a bit light in color, a stronger, more robustly flavored tea would have overpowered the softer pear tones.  As it is, there is a nice balance between black tea and pear.

And then there is the spice.  It’s a gently spiced tea, just enough to add some warmth to the cup without dominating the taste buds with a powerful spice flavor.

This is a very soothing tea to sip … it’s very nice on these cold winter days, and a really delightful tea to start off the 12 Days of Christmas!  YUM!

On the Twelfth Day of Christmas, Della Terra Teas Sent to Me …

Day12Merry Christmas, everyone!  I hope your day is happy and filled with all the things you love most:  family, friends and of course TEA!  (Actually, I don’t know if you love tea most, but, it’s one of the things I love most in the world, and since you’re sitting here, reading this with me, I have to think that maybe you at least ENJOY tea a little bit!)

Anyway, today’s shiny, bright green envie/box brought me this EXCLUSIVE tea from Della Terra Teas:

Sugar Plum Perfection

 Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Black

Where To Buy:  Della Terra Teas

Note:  this tea is one of three exclusive teas to this 12 Days of Christmas collection

Tea Description:

Merry Christmas!!! Today is the big day!  Now, open up this amazing sugar plum tea and sip away.  You’ve earned it!

This black tea will bring more magic to this already magical day with the taste of sweet sugar plums and spice.  Enjoy and relax!

A Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!

Day12-1Taster’s Review:

I was so excited when I opened today’s little package from Della Terra Teas!  I love Sugar Plums!  Well, actually, I’ve never tried the traditional type of Sugar Plum.  But, when I lived in Ridgefield (Washington), the little antique store in town sold some old time candy and during this time of year, they’d sell the Jelly Belly version of the Sugar Plum, and I loved those.  Well, to be honest, I love just about anything Jelly Belly … but I digress.

After tasting this, I suspect that this Sugar Plum Perfection is a bit more like the traditional Sugar Plum rather than the Jelly Belly version … but, that’s alright, because I’m enjoying this!  It’s a bit more spiced than it is a fruity tasting tea, but I do taste the notes of plum in there too … and I especially smell the plum when I lift my cup up to my lips to take a sip.  That smell is quite plum-y (and of course, spice)!  YUM!

The black tea is a fairly mellow tea here as it is not particularly prominent in the cup.  I mean, it’s obviously there, and I can taste it, but, it’s not a strong, distinct flavor.  I find that the tea notes develop on the palate a little as I continue to sip … but the spice and the fruit notes are the strongest flavors of this cup.  Normally, this would give me cause to take issue with the tea, but, this tastes so yummy that I find it difficult to complain about anything.  I like this a lot.

The spices (the most noteable of which is cinnamon) are pleasant and warming.  The plum flavor is sweet, and there is additional sweetness in this from little sparkly sugar crystals that have been added to the blend.  I also taste a floral note to this, and I find this to be quite appealing if for no other reason than it adds an interesting dimension to the overall cup.

What a perfect way to end this wonderful countdown to Christmas – the Della Terra Teas way!

On The Eleventh Day of Christmas, Della Terra Teas Sent to Me …

Day11By the time you’ll be reading this, my family will have already celebrated their holiday, because we chose to celebrate on the 23rd.  My oldest daughter, who is now married, will be spending the 24th and the 25th with her in-laws, and we decided that we’d rather push up our holiday celebration and have her enjoy the day with us than to have it on the “official” day and not have her here.

And really, that’s what holidays should be about.  Not about presents, not about decorations … but about family.  And of course, TEA!  (with me, everything is about tea!)

And here is the tea that Della Terra Teas sent for this Eleventh Day of Christmas …

Winter Nog

Taster’s Review:

winternogThe first thing I noticed about this tisane is the cute little snowflake candies … very festive!  The aroma was noticeably vanilla-y, and I also detect a note of spice to the scent.

If I recall correctly, this 12 Days of Christmas tea box from Della Terra Teas has had 2 rooibos tisanes in it (well, thus far … there’s still tomorrow!) and of the two, I have to say that this one delivers much more of the flavor that the name of it promises.  This tastes much more like egg nog than the Gingerbread Man tasted of gingerbread.  Oh, that one still tasted good, it just didn’t taste like any gingerbread that I had ever tasted.  This one, though … this tastes like egg nog.  The only thing that is missing for me is the texture … it’s not quite creamy enough – texture wise – for me to declare this as a perfect “Winter Nog.”

It’s still good though, and flavor wise, it is plenty creamy.  Unfortunately, with rooibos tisanes, the texture is a difficult thing to capture, because rooibos tends to feel rather thin on the palate.  I will say that this feels a little creamier on the palate than say … unflavored rooibos.  And it tastes a whole lot better than unflavored rooibos too!  ha!

And actually, I kind of like the combination of egg nog flavors together with the nutty flavor of the rooibos.  It just kind of … works together.  I taste a heavy note of cinnamon, a hint of nutmeg, and creamy vanilla.  I find myself wanting just a tad more of that egg-y custard-y taste that is present in a glass of egg nog, but, overall, this is pretty tasty.  And every once in a while, I think I’m tasting a hint of rum … but, maybe that’s just my imagination.

A nice way to spend Christmas eve … curled up with this tisane!
