Tropical Storm Warning: Coconut Blizzard – Teana Colada from Tea Geek’ery

Wow look at those curls of fresh coconut!  There’s more flaky, white goodness in this tea blend than all the snow we have had in this New England winter.  Teana Colada is a simple blend with a cute name and quality ingredients: red rooibos tea and coconut chips.  Brewed hot, there is so much coconut, the buttery blend is almost savory, like butter on toast.  As it cools, the tropical notes of the coconut shine through and mingle with the nutty red rooibos.  This isn’t a true pina colada blend, as there isn’t any pineapple or fruity flavors, but it is a coconut dream tea.

As a cold brew, the rooibos comes through more strongly, making the blend taste like a creamy, vanilla rooibos tea.  On its own, the cold brew is a little one-note, but it might be a winning secret ingredient in a tropical iced tea summer blend.  The upside of a rooibos blend is that it is naturally caffeine-free, so you can steep a cup of this blend at any time in your schedule.
This is a tea for nutty coconut fans, or someone who is looking for an exceptionally creamy, buttery rooibos blend.  If you really want to take this tropical theme to its height, drink Teana Colada out of a tiki mug with a big wedge of pineapple on the side!

ROOIBOS DU HAMMAM tea from Palais des Thés. . . .

I impulse-bought this tasting set  online and then forgot I’d done so. This sounds normal until you realize I have Amazon Prime, so it arrived in two days. My husband said “you have packages!” and I was like “I can’t remember for the life of me what I’ve done!”

It sounds like the next thing I should say here is “and that’s how I realized I was an alcoholic.”

I’m not. I’m something for which there is no meetings: a tea addict.

And I regret nothing!

This unexpected tea is delicious!

This tea combines “green date, luscious berries and the smooth, mellow flavor of Rooibos.”

I don’t know what green dates taste like, so I can’t speak to that, but this mostly tastes like the best rooibos I’ve ever tasted. No exaggeration. It’s velvety, sweet, and vanilla-ish. The cup I had didn’t have much berry flavor in it, but maybe it’s coming later. Or maybe it never will. Either way, I think I might buy more of this and turn it into a nightly ritual.

Winter Almond Rooibos from Tea Sparrow. . . . .

Well…it’s Winter. It took a while to get here in the snow belt…but I’m NOT complaining! I found it fitting to review Winter Almond Rooibos from Tea Sparrow to get into the wintery spirit.

Winter Almond Rooibos is an herbal tisane that is full of aroma and flavor! I didn’t see any dairy in the list of ingredients so I thought I would try it. Ingredients listed were Redbush Tea, Almond Pieces, Chocolate Pieces (that were made up of sugar, cocoa powder/mass, almond flavor, and sunflower blossoms.

I was expecting this to be an almond and chocolate flavored red rooibos but it ended up being more than that. It was much like a Chocolate Almond Cookie in a cup! It was delicious! The Red Rooibos wasn’t as stereotypical as you think it would be which leads me to believe the amount of almond and chocolate flavoring was pretty top notch!

This was part of the December Tea Sparrow teas that were shipped. I’m VERY excited and grateful I was able to try it. If you are into non-dairy dessert teas and tisanes this is one I would keep an eye out for next time it’s available! It’s sure to please!

DeTox from Magic Tea Fit. . . . .

After a capital-D Decadent holiday season and a weeklong vacation recently, my body has been feeling CASHED. While I don’t buy into this whole detox tea trend, I do think that my body feels the difference between drinking another cup of peppermint-sugar-coated-chocolate-sugarplum-chocolate sugar tea (mmmm, the holidays) and an herbal blend with some anti-inflammatory herbs.

This tea smells strongly of cinnamon and licorice and tastes the same. I can’t detect any of the red rooibos here, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. There’s a hint of hibiscus, a touch of ginger– really, this tea is kind of a mish-mash of all the key players in so many of the herbals stocks my cabinet at the moment.

I’m bummed to see stevia in this blend– my guess is that it’d be sweet enough with the licorice and other herbs alone, but I do get some of that trademark stevia-aftertaste that’s not so pleasant.

This tea might be a bit of an overachiever– so many herbs make for a bit of a competition between flavors. But on the whole, it sips great and is a welcome respite from the sugar-overload of the holiday season. I’ll be enjoying this one until it’s time to start baking some Valentine’s treats!

Top of the (Blueberry Lemon) Muffin to You! A Curiositea Blend

Blueberry Lemon Rooibos from Curiositea makes me think of muffins– top of the muffin to you!

The nutty rooibos paired with these fruit flavors remind me of blueberry muffins with lemon peel, or a delectable lemon poppyseed cake.  The lemon of this blend is more creamy than tart, and comes through slightly stronger than the blueberry.

There is a darker sweetness in the undertones of this brew that keeps the lemon from getting too sharp, and I must credit this flavor to the blueberries.
When iced, the flavor combination in this blend could pass for blueberry lemonade rooibos.  There is a perfect balance between deep, sweet blueberries and bright, citrus lemon.

The flavors help keep this blend super smooth and drinkable, even for a rooibos base.  This is a versatile herbal tea and has quickly become a staple in my decaf selections.
