When Nichole (Cuppageek) described this tea as “something to behold” in her round-up review of favorites , I knew I had to get on board.
Therefore, when I found this in my packet of samples, I got right on it!
This tea has a rich mineral leather/earth taste. It’s a far cry from my usual sweet teas; this is more of a dudely beef jerky/UFC fighter type of vibe. I daresay it’s MEATY.
In fact, the very first thing I thought upon sipping this was “the manly side of the gym.”
(Sure, you can feel free to say “everyone uses all parts of the gym!” … But when you saw the phrase “the manly side of the gym” you knew EXACTLY what I meant.)
The side with the weights. And the benches. And the anguished grunting. And the veins that are on top of the muscles instead of inside them. (How does that even happen? Do they get, like, evicted from the inside because there’s just too much bro-meat in there?)
The other side is the girls on the cardio machines gallivanting around like gazelles with their ombré ponytails swinging in tandem.
I go to a “no judgement! no critics!” gym (you know the chain). Despite its “everyone is welcome!” attitude, the dude-side is still intimidating.
I crept over to the weights area just this morning, in fact. I lifted some wimpy dumbbells a few times, trying to give the behemoth redhead behind me full access to the mirror to check on his form. I then whisked away, giving all of the powerhouses around me wide berth.
My goals aren’t huge. I just want to be able to carry all the groceries up the stairs in one trip instead of two. I would rather DIE than go back for another load. If I can just beef up enough to consolidate that trip, I’d be good.
(I’d also like to be able to ascend hills without shrieking about my impending death — but one thing at a time.)

Be wary of the Wendigo …… Wendigo Green Tea
For those of who know the legend of the Wendigo (and those of you who played the video game Until Dawn) know that the tale is a terrifying one. To sum it up, a Wendigo is a creature that has an insatiable hunger for human flesh. Yes, it does sound grizzly but this tea is the exact opposite!
The Wendigo green tea is definitely a lot more pleasant than the creature by the same name. It has a fresh earthiness to it but it is not too in your face. And since I am more partial to black tea myself I thought this green tea was a nice change of pace. So I believe this green tea will be perfect for black tea drinkers who want a something green but not to the matcha levels of green. And with a teaspoon or so of sugar, this tea had the perfect subtle sweetness to it.
Now on to the price and the steeping specifics of this tea which I believe is pretty fair given the quality of the tea. It is $11.99 for 2 oz and $27.99 for 5 oz. This is also very quick to steep as well. For 1-2 teaspoons it takes about 1-2 minutes to steep. I recommend using boiling water that is to the point of steaming and not to where the kettle whistles. That is about 170 degrees Fahrenheit for all of you perfectionists out there.
Now if any of you are like me, you would be very curious as to why the name of this company is Wendigo Tea Company. Well, I happened upon the “origin” portion of their site and I was happy to find an enthusiastic man named Sky White. His reasonings for starting this company were simple: he wanted to drink the very best teas in the world and I can absolutely relate. And if I say so myself, based on my opinions of his Wendigo Green Tea, he is guaranteed to have another customer for I am very curious on what else he has to offer. Now throughout this whole entire section, he doesn’t mention where he got the inspiration to call his company by the name of Wendigo. But I believe that since Mr. White has a desire to be different from other tea companies naming your company after a Native American legend would be a great way to stand out from the crowd.
All in all, I like this green tea and when I run out I will definitely restock. It has a great mellowness and flexibility to it that I can actually see myself drinking this as iced tea as well.

Bigfoot from Wendigo Tea Co. . . .There has been a sighting!
A classic case of me being drawn in to trying a tea because of the name. I mean…who wouldn’t want to try Bigfoot Tea? I introduce to you…Bigfoot Tea from Wendigo Tea Co.
Why was I so excited to try Bigfoot Tea from Wendigo Tea Co? Well, because I live in one of the supposed ‘hot spots’ in the US for Bigfoot Sightings! It’s true! A local winery even named a wine after Bigfoot. So now I can say I have tried at least 1 tea and 1 wine that were inspired by the mythological simian, ape, or hominid-like creature that is said to inhabit forests.
If you reside in a different country or haven’t heard of this creature it’s American folklore. Bigfoot is usually described as a large, hairy, bipedal humanoid. It’s also known as Sasquatch. The term Sasquatch is an Anglicized derivative of the Halkomelem word sásq’ets. Thank you Wiki!
As for this tea…Bigfoot Tea from Wendigo Tea Co. is flippin’ fantastic! After reading the base for this tea was an Imperial Grade Golden Monkey from a tea workshop in Fuan county in the Fujiang province of China I couldn’t wait to try it. I’m partial to black teas, after all.
Bigfoot Tea from Wendigo Tea Co. gets its name from the leaves which look like long, brown curly monkey hair. The leaves are so flavorful that you can repeatedly steep them up to 6 times according to the companies website! The flavor is fairly bold, woodsy-sweet, brisk, and YUMMY!
I’ve heard from Bigfoot enthusiasts that the beast doesn’t smell very nice but this tea does! Perhaps Wendigo knows something we don’t here in Bigfoot Country! Regardless – I have to say I am a fan of this tea! A nice, sturdy black cuppa!

Firebird Chai from Wendigo Tea Co. . . . .
Firebird Chai from Wendigo Tea Co. is a dandy of a medium strength chai! I didn’t find it too overly spicy but it still had a nice flavor to it. It contains Indian Estate black tea, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, black pepper & all spice. I like when companies specify which black tea they use in their chai base. I’m seeing this more and more as of late.
With a name like Firebird Chai from Wendigo Tea Co I was thinking it was going to be the more intensely flavored chais. This really wasn’t the case but if you look at the product description they say many people add sugar, sweeteners, milk or milk alternatives to even out the spices in chai and that isn’t needed here.
I think my favorite part of Firebird Chai from Wendigo Tea Co is that there is a somewhat defined Earthiness to this chai offering. I find that unique and I welcome it! Firebird Chai from Wendigo Tea Co is a goodie!

Firebird Chai by Wendigo
While sniffing this tea before steeping (what? Don’t tell me I’m the only one who does this) I can definitely pick up a big whiff of ginger in the dry leaves. The leaves are better-looking than average for chai; they also have more of a presence in the blend (as far as fragrance and so on) than some do. I also observed lots of chunks of other stuff (spices?) in there with the tea leaves. The curls of dried ginger were the most noticeable of these. (And also were quite impressive. Don’t most chais just have minced ginger or something? These curls were really cool-looking.)
