Tulsi is one of India’s most sacred herbs, an aromatic shrub recognized for its spiritually uplifting and healing properties. This tulsi blend is a great morning tea, combining the strong and malty taste of Asamese black tea with the spicy-minty aroma and flavor of high-quality tulsi.

Story

Tulsi or holy basil is an important symbol in the Hindu religious tradition and is worshiped in the morning and evening by Hindus at large. The holy basil is also a herbal remedy for a lot of common ailments. Holy Basil has been called the “Incomparable One”, the “Queen of Herbs” and “The Elixir of Life.”

Tasters Review:

I’m getting to where I really like Tulsi when “done up nice” like this one!

The Tulsi is wonderful but I LOVE that it’s paired with the black tea!  It’s almost the pioneers of both worlds coming together to collaborate.

Much like Run DMC & Aerosmith to come up with an awesome blend of flavors for a hit than will stand the test of time!

If you like Tulsi and you like black tea – this is darned tasty! The tulsi is like sweet basil herb and mint tied into one with the black tea for a nice TEA base!   It’s Brilliant! I have been waiting for someone to do this and Shanti did! THANK YOU!

And now for a little RUN DMC and Aerosmith…

Tasters Review:

Our friends at Shanti Tea in Canada have done it again!  They’ve come out with another lovely black tea.  And not just any black tea…a ChariTEA!  (Read above if you haven’t already)

The aroma of this one is that of a fairly strong black tea.

What really made me swoon was the color after infusing it!  It’s a gorgeous deep burgundy color.  Both the aroma and the color of the tea made me crave the bold taste from there-on-out!

This is a bold – but not bitter – black tea.  It’s malty yet well-rounded!  The aftertaste is pretty pleasant, too.  It’s smooth on the tongue and warms the heart!  I really REALLY like this tea!  This is one of those unflavored black teas that everyone should have on hand!

Tasters Review:

I’m not really a fan of store-bought orange juice.  Call me spoiled…I only really like, want, and crave freshly squeezed O.J.  Since I don’t live in an area with wonderfully plump and juicy oranges year-round I like to tinker with Orange flavored teas instead!  When I tried this one for the first time I was VERY pleased with my attempt!

Dry I can smell the juicy orange.  Once infused much of the aroma goes away but this brews dark and the black tea taste is yummy.  The orange flavors are at about medium strength and are nicely done.  Not over the top or distracting yet natural and true!

This is a very nicely orange flavored black!  I highly suggest it!

Ceylon Forest Green Tea from Shanti Tea

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Green

Where to Buy:  Shanti Tea

Product Description:

Reminiscent of a China green, with its vegetal taste, but with a greater degree of fermentation. This rare, rainforest grown tea is mellow yet full-bodied, serene, and uplifting.

Taster’s Review:

This is a delicious green tea.  The dry leaves, when I first saw them, didn’t look real green to me, they looked more like an oxidized tea, perhaps not as dark as a black tea, but, not really green, either. After infusing, the wet leaves reveal their true color and are very deep green.

The flavor is delightful.  The description states that it is “mellow yet full-bodied, serene and uplifting,” and I agree with that.  This does have a vegetative taste, but, it’s much more complex than that.  The sip begins with sweetness with a hint of a grassy/vegetative note.  About mid-sip, I notice a savory note that is somewhat bitter but not off-putting.  It’s actually quite intriguing and I like how it cuts through the sweetness.  The sip ends with some astringency, and a sweet, fruity tone lingers in the aftertaste.

This tea is good for a couple of infusions, and I highly recommend taking advantage of that.  The second infusion is superior to the first.  It is in the second infusion that more fruit tones reveal themselves.  I would liken this second infusion to the flavor of apple slices that have been drizzled with honey.  It is sweet and very delicious.  Definitely a cup you’ll want to savor.

This is a tea I would recommend to all green tea enthusiasts out there!  It’s divine!

Story

The Golden Apple

Growing in the mythological garden of Hesperides were “golden apple” trees which granted immortality to those who ate its fruit. Legend has it that these golden apple trees were grown from the fuited branches Gaea gave to Hera as a wedding gift when she married Zeus. These golden apples were in fact oranges, however the Greeks did not yet have a word for it. The word orange was introduced to Europe from the Sanskrit word for orange tree, “Narangah”. Incidentally, the color orange is named after the fruit, and not the other way around.

Taster’s Review:

This is a fantastic orange black tea.

I’ll be honest with you, I wasn’t really expecting much with it.  I mean, it’s orange flavored black tea.  You’ve tasted one, you’ve tasted them all, right?  It seemed so very ordinary to me.

WRONG!  This is no ordinary orange flavored black tea, and it tastes quite different from other run-of-the-mill orange flavored black teas that I’ve encountered.

First of all, the black tea is the strongest presence in this cup.  It is strong and brisk, with a very pleasing depth of flavor.  It’s quite rich, and while I’m pretty sure it’s a Ceylon or a Ceylon blend, it’s one of high quality and creates a delicious base for this tea.

There is some astringency to the tea which is something I expect when I try citrus teas especially, as the citrus seems to highlight the pucker-y effect of the astringency with its tangy character.  The astringency is a little drying, but there is no bitterness to this tea.  It is sweet and pleasant.

With the first couple of sips, the orange flavor seemed almost hidden.  It’s there, certainly, but it isn’t as strong as one might expect it to be.  The flavor develops gradually as I continue to sip.  It isn’t so much that its “hidden” but that it melds so well with the black tea that it almost becomes one unified flavor.  It’s quite unique and makes for a very delicious experience.

The orange flavor becomes much more apparent in the finish and aftertaste.  The orange lingers in the aftertaste.  It’s as though a drop of freshly squeezed orange juice has hit my tongue.  It’s sweet and citrus-y delicious, just like a fresh, juicy orange.

I really enjoyed this tea much more than I expected to.  A not-so-ordinary Orange Black Tea for those who have come to expect the unexpected!
