I’ve always had an affinity for matcha, but in recent months, I’ve become a bit obsessed. Like many of my tea-loving sisters, I stash the hot brews away for the summer as soon as it starts to warm up, but there’s still a part of me that longs for a tasty, un-iced cuppa from time to time. Black teas seem too heavy for this distinction in the summer, but fresh and vegetal matcha hits the perfect notes.
I’m not enough of a matcha expert to really be able to tell the finest distinctions between brands, but I can vouch that this one is right up there with some of my favorites: finely milled, fresh, bright and vegetal taste, and blends beautifully into my drink of choice (either straight in water, as a latte, or if I’m feeling really fun– iced!). Kiss Me Organics! LOVE the name of the company! And I have to say they have one of the most comprehensive websites I have seen in a while. Everything is very nicely done – from the multi-media to the colors and theme to the info and beyond!
They have some really sleek and trendy tools and tea gadgets on their site, too, but today I want to share with you my experiences with their Organic Matcha Culinary Grade Green Tea Powder from Japan.
The company markets it as an all day energy and metabolism boost, something that increases your focus, improves skin health, and offers up to 137 times the EGCG of brewed green tea. I personally am not focused on the claims – I’m more interested in the texture and taste but it each it’s own!
Moving on to the texture and taste I have to say both are incredibly impressive! While whisking – it only bubbled up for a milli-second or so before the bubble/froth diminished. More importantly for what I was looking for while preparing my matcha recently was to make sure that it was completely smooth without any lumps or clumps or grit. I had all the success in the world! It was very easy to whisk and turn the powder into silky liquid matcha with little effort!
The color was a vibrant, solid, green with slight grey shadow to it. The taste was AMAZING! It was ‘green’ tasting but creamy and smooth, too! It was delicious! It was strong without being bitter. It was everything I was looking for in a straight-up matcha!

Sugar Melon Blooming Tea From Kiss Me Organics. . . .
Blooming Teas. . .not a tea that I can honestly say I’ve had a lot of. I’ve tried them in the past and I could never get them to bloom like the pictures shown. But when our package of samples arrived from Kiss Me Organics, I was ready to try the blooming tea scenario again.
Kiss Me Organics offers a lovely flavored blooming tea assortment with flavors like cherry, strawberry, and sugar melon. I couldn’t resist checking these teas out so I set to prepping my water. Per the instructions, I used a glass tea pot so I could watch the blooming tea in action and used freshly boiled water. I allowed the tea to steep for the recommended time.
First infusion I can’t say the tea fully bloomed but what I can say is that this tea delivered on a delicious fresh clean melon flavor with a solid buttery like finish. This tea was smooth and crisp. Dare I even say dessert like. I couldn’t put my cup down and was surprised by how fast I gulped (and I must emphasize the word GULP there) the tea down.
The second infusion was about the same. The tea didn’t flower completely like I thought it would but the brew was insanely delicious. My cup was emptied just as fast as the first go around. Again, I was greeted with this delicious fresh clean smooth melon flavor. I’m not sure why I kept thinking clean but the taste was still as crisp as the first infusion, which made me happy. Like drinking a cup full of sunshine.
I ended up having several infusions of this wonderfully uplifting brew. The flower did end up blooming and I think I ended up getting close to ten infusions from this one blooming tea.
If you are a fan of melon flavors, I recommend checking this tea out. I’ve tried a few other blooming teas out of this assortment, and the Sugar Melon so far is my favorite. I was hoping you could get just a package of Sugar Melon Blooming Teas from Kiss Me Organics, but right now the only offer an assortment.
Regardless, this tea is one I’m now craving and will need to get more of. And with spring right around the corner, this would be a fun tea to share that has more of an airy light flavor instead of the heavier flavors of winter. Plus the blooming part of this tea is just fun and unusual from the rest of the teas I typically drink.
