Float My Boat™ from WhiteAugust Tea Company

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Rooibos

Where to Buy:  WhiteAugust Tea Company

Product Description:

Red, white and blue, oh how I love you. Hats off to our all American blend of pomegranates, coconuts, blueberries and yummy rooibos. No caffeine so you can lull yourself to sleep with the ocean waves.

Taster’s Review:

This is a really pretty blend.  There are lots of blue and red petals, and along with the white coconut shavings, this blend has a very patriotic look.  It smells yummy too!  Fruity and sweet, with a delicious fragrance of coconut in the foreground.  It’s enough to make my mouth water!

When brewed, the aroma softens a bit, but I can still smell the blueberries and the coconut.  The pomegranate scent is a little less apparent, but fortunately, it isn’t so indistinguishable in the flavor!

This tastes really good.  The rooibos flavor is not particularly strong, and that’s the way I prefer it.  The coconut is the strongest flavor, and I can feel the silky, somewhat oily texture of the coconut wash over my palate.  It tastes sweet and creamy and very smooth.

The blueberries and pomegranate are almost of equal strength in this cup, with the blueberry edging out the pomegranate only slightly.  The flavor is sweet with a hint of tartness – tartness that I suspect is further softened by the presence of the coconut.

This is an awesome, caffeine-free dessert tisane that can be enjoyed any time of the day or night.  This would also be great to help curb those late-night sweet cravings!

Lady Luck from WhiteAugust Tea Company

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Pouchong

Where to Buy:  WhiteAugust Tea Company

Product Description:

Purely seductive. Pouchong oolong, lemon myrtle, marigolds and just a touch of vanilla, give rise to this smooth slightly creamy liquor.

Taster’s Review:

While brewing this tea, I couldn’t help but notice the aroma.  The vanilla scent is really quite powerful.  It smells so sweet and delicious.

But, I am glad that the vanilla doesn’t present as strong a flavor as it does a fragrance in this blend.  Don’t get me wrong, the vanilla flavor IS there, but, it doesn’t overwhelm the cup.  It is delicate enough to allow the nuances of the Pouchong to express themselves.

The vanilla tones are sweet and creamy, and they seem to unite seamlessly with the soft, velvet-y flavor of the Pouchong.  There is just a hint of citrus-y flavor from the lemon myrtle – much less than I was expecting.  That’s not to say it should be stronger … it is what it is … but, I guess when I read the description I was expecting a more prominent citrus tone.  As it is, though, I think that the subtle hints of citrus in this cup are very pleasant, providing a nice contrast to the sweetness of the vanilla and Pouchong.

Overall, I find this to be a very smooth-tasting tea.  There is very little astringency and no bitterness to it.  It is a delicate tea; it is not too heavy or overbearing.  It is a nice choice for later in the day, but it’s also sweet enough to be a dessert-type tea as well.

Choco-Maté from WhiteAugust Tea Company

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Yerba Maté

Where to Buy:  WhiteAugust Tea Company

Product Description:

This energizing combination of sweet chocolate and south amercian mate is sure to stimulate your senses.

Taster’s Review:

Did someone say chocolate?

As I’ve mentioned more than once before, I am a chocoholic (and I’m not ashamed to admit it).  I love chocolate, and my belief is that more chocolate = better.  This belief translates into my passion for teas as well, and when it comes to chocolate flavored teas/tisanes, the more chocolate flavor, the better.

The combination of Yerba Maté and chocolate is a brilliant one, because the two seem to go together so naturally.  The earthy tones of the Yerba Maté enhance the flavor of the chocolate.  However, my belief about more chocolate = better applies here, and this would be better with more chocolate flavor.

That’s not to say that this isn’t chocolate-y, because it is.  It is a rich, sweet, dark chocolate flavor and it is absolutely delicious.  That being said, this chocoholic can’t help but want more of a really good thing!

This cup is smooth and sweet.  There is a vegetative quality to the Yerba Maté that adds an interesting dimension of flavor.  I also agree with my SororiTea Sister, TeaEqualsBliss, about this tisane:  I can taste a nutty/woody quality that is very rooibos-like.  But I don’t find this off-putting at all, in fact, I’m enjoying that nutty characteristic and how well it goes with the chocolate tones.

Overall, a very rich and satisfying cup.  A great wake-me-up tisane, since Yerba Maté is a bit more caffeinated than most other teas/tisanes.  Something so delicious – it’s a bit like having dessert for breakfast!  Yummy!

Strawberry Cascade from WhiteAugust Tea Company

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  White

Where to Buy:  WhiteAugust Tea Company

Product Description:

Awe-inspiring bai mu dan white tea, overflowing with strawberries, rose petals and creamy coconut. The perfect compliment to the perfect day.

Taster’s Review:

Today was a very busy day, and there are few things that I find more relaxing on days like this than settling down at the end of the day with a cup of tea.  This tea is just the right tea for today.

The Bai Mu Dan offers a fresh, delicate taste that is so soft and calming.  The combination of the white tea and the hint of coconut gives this tea a sweet, creamy note that rests in the background.

While the strawberry is the strongest flavor of this cup, it is a rather soft flavor – keeping in step with the lightness of the white tea flavor.  The strawberry tastes like a sweet, ripe berry, and while this is a little less tart than I expected it to be, I don’t mind it one bit.  There is a slight berry “tang” right at the tail of the sip which lingers in the aftertaste.  Tangy – but not what I would consider sour or even a strong tartness.

The rose offers quite a bit of its essence to the aroma of the tea but starts off almost non-existent in the flavor.  As I make my way to the end of the cup, though, I find that the flavor of the rose builds gradually, and now I experience a lovely, floral note just before the finish.  It’s quite nice.

This tea is remarkably refreshing.  When I first started sipping this tea, I was kind of on the fence about it, not really sure if I liked it or not, but now as I am almost finished with the cup, I am realizing how much I am going to miss it when it’s gone!  I really do like this one a lot!  WhiteAugust Tea has a BIG winner on their hands with this one.

My Cheap Hubby from WhiteAugust Tea Company

Tea Information:

Leaf Type:  Black

Where to Buy:  WhiteAugust Tea Company

Product Description:

Is your man too cheap to buy you roses and chocolates?  Don’t be mad, enjoy all your favorites in this delicious black tea with dark chocolate, sweet creamy cherries, rose petals and Schizandra  berries. This Tea comes in a stylish tin and includes T-sacs, so you can enjoy your Tea on the Go.

Taster’s Review:

My first impression of this tea was similar to that of TeaEqualsBliss – chocolate covered cherries.  As I continue to sip it, though, I am finding myself more drawn to this tea than I would be to a box of chocolate covered cherries.

Not that I dislike chocolate covered cherries … it’s just that I find them a bit too cloying.  But that is where this tea and the confection begin to part ways.  While this tea is sweet, it isn’t overwhelmingly so.  I think the Schizandra berries provide just enough tartness to the cup to cut through some of the sweeter notes.

The chocolate is a dark chocolate flavor.  It is rich and smooth.  The cherry flavor is sweet, and I can also taste a hint of that distinctive floral note from the rose.  Together these components make for a deliciously rich, chocolate-y treat.

The black tea base is a fairly mellow, smooth-tasting tea.  While it does not lend a strong, stand-out flavor to the cup; it does provide a delicious flavor that enhances the complexity of the chocolate tones very nicely.

This tea is plenty sweet on its own – it needs no additions.  Of course, if you like a sweeter tea, a little sugar won’t hurt it.  And if you like a creamier tea, milk would be very nice in this tea as well.  A delicious indulgence any time of the day!
