I am a green tea kinda gal. Always have been. I enjoy black teas but sometimes they just hit me as being heavy. I love the fresh crisp flavors that only green teas an sometimes white teas can provide.
Speaking of crisp flavors, the other day I tried a unique blend that I haven’t seen anywhere else yet. Watermelon Lemonade Organic Green Tea from Fraser Tea. This blend is a lovely combination of green tea, peppermint, organic flavors, pineapples, and a few other ingredients.
Never would I have ever thought that I would dig watermelon in tea blends but recently 52Teas brought out a few watermelon teas that I greedily gobbled up tea pot after tea pot. This tea blend had my name all over it. I was happy to see it in my green tea sampler that I picked up from Fraser Tea a week ago. My tea kettle couldn’t prep the water fast enough for me.
For brewing parameters for this tea sachet, I prepped the water at 190F, steeped the tea sachet for a little over 3 minutes, and then allowed the tea to cool for another couple minutes-letting the flavors settle. This tea blend brews up to this lovely green limeade like flavor. I took my first sip and I knew I was done for.
Bright pops of a green vegetal background swirled happily and danced lovingly alongside notes of lemon and a subtle melon like flavor. There is a tartness through out each sip that is really lovely and the peppermint adds in a needed contrasting freshness to end each sip. I wouldn’t exactly call this a lemonade but in the same token, I wouldn’t simply call this a Watermelon Lemon tea. Like I said there is that noticeable tartness and I think that is where the lemonade comes into play.
Regardless, this tea is refreshing and marvelous. I can only imagine how dynamite this tea would be iced. This tea may not be a solid everyday drinking tea for me, but this tea is one that I would gladly drink every now and again. A lovely little ditty to keep in my tea stash when I need a change of pace.

Sophia Takes On Watermelon Houjicha from 52Teas. . . .
I love watermelon, especially watermelon slush and especially in the summertime! So, when I saw Watermelon Houjicha by 52 Teas in my sample box I was psyched. I have never had a watermelon flavored tea before. I have, however, had houjicha before and I love it. Houjicha generally has a very warm and toasty flavor to it. It is a very comforting green tea. I was curious to see how that would work with watermelon flavor.
I’m not sure if I would say that the smell of the dry leaf or steeped liquid was “watermelon”. I think that what I could smell most was the houjicha, that toasty and comforting scent. When it comes to taste, though, wow on watermelon! I was actually wondering how the watermelon flavor would translate and if it would taste similar to a jolly rancher or lollipop. Actually, it wasn’t tart like candy at all! In fact, I would say that it was pretty realistic! I swear it tastes like I just took a bite out of a watermelon slice, seeds and all!
As if someone squeeze a watermelon over my teacup. . . . . . .
While the flavor was spot on and completely realistic, I don’t know if I would say that houjicha was a good base. I think I would prefer this tea if it was a nice sencha green tea as the base instead of houjicha. Either way, I will finish my sample in hopeful wait of hot summer days when I can sit outside by the pool and eat some watermelon slush! Until then, watermelon houjicha from 52 teas will be in my cup!

Tea Description: I’m not sure exactly what inspired me to combine the distinctive flavor of of Houjicha with the essence of watermelon except for, perhaps, hearing from customers that a) I don’t make enough flavored Houjichas and b) I don’t make enough watermelon flavored teas. So I guess I thought – why not combine them?
And really, why not? The warm, toasty flavor of the Houjicha may not seem like a natural pairing with the sweet, luscious notes of watermelon but I’m enjoying the flavor combination. It’s definitely toasty but the watermelon is there too and it has adds a light, refreshing sweet taste to the warmth of the Houjicha.
Definitely interesting and tasty!

Watermelon MajesTea from Cup of Love. . . . .
Watermelon…it’s one of those fruits that many people seem to LOVE or HATE…rarely a ‘Happy Medium’ with Watermelons…it seems! Lucky for me I LOVE Watermelon! So when I saw that the sister company of Vampyre Tea was attempting to perfect their dried watermelon for Watermelon MajesTea from Cup of Love I was VERY excited to try it!
Watermelon MajesTea from Cup of Love contains Oolong Tea, Dried Watermelon, Chunks of White Nectarine, Papaya Pieces, Plum Petals, & Safflower Petals. I’m fairly certain that they dry (dehydrate) the watermelon themselves because I saw their posts on Facebook! I will say that the dried watermelon was a bit sticky to touch but it proved how fresh and REAL it was and that made me even more intrigued!
I really have to pause a moment and tell you about the AMAZING aroma of this tea! The watermelon scents were VERY strong. The smell busted thru the packaging. IMPRESSIVE! This was an intensely flavored oolong.
Flavor-wise the watermelon was the rock star but the chunks of other fruit were a nice addition and seem to round out the fruity flavor nicely. The petals were more for show but still appreciated. No matter which way I slice it I keep going back to the aroma and flavor the watermelon gives off in this. If you are a fan of watermelon like I am I’m pretty sure you will get a KICK out of this flavored oolong. Watermelon MajesTea from Cup of Love is more than ‘just’ a tea…it’s an experience!
