Limoncello from The NecessiTeas. . . . .#desserttea

I am so impressed with this tea that I immediately visited the website and ordered more. First of all, it smells DIVINE! I usually like to add sweeteners to my tea, but this tea is perfect just the way it is.

Limoncello is a refreshing pick-me-up in the evening. I can also see it as a go-to on an under-the-weather day as a soothing drink for a sore throat. I also tried it as an iced tea.

WOW! I will definitely be serving and drinking a lot of Limoncello iced tea this summer (possibly with some fresh mint leaves).

The NecessiTEAS website lists an intriguing variety of creative flavors. If a customer is looking for only one or two items, they have very reasonable flat-rate shipping. I was excited to try more of the fun flavors offered, so I received free shipping with my order.

I can’t wait to try and review more of their fantastic flavors!

For Lemon-Lovers – #Limoncello from #TheNecessiTeas

Heads up for you lemon-lovers out there, this tea is definitely for you!

The namesake of this tea, Limoncello, is an Italian liqueur made from the zest of lemons.  It’s known to be a sweet drink, despite the yellow citrus fruit’s sour reputation.  This tea definitely tastes like distilled lemons and keeps the perfect sweet-tart flavor balance of citrus and cream, very much like tart lemon dessert bars with powdered sugar.

In the dry leaf, this tea smells strongly of citrus, but the lemon myrtle in the blend keeps the flavors natural and herbal, rather than smelling too much like lemon cleaning products. Along with all the zesty fruit flavors, there is something creamy and dessert-like in blend as well.  Sweetness comes in the form of almost-caramel, brown sugar notes.  This tea reminds me of the classic lemon drop candies or even luscious lemon meringue pie.
Despite being a green rooibos tea, this blend still brews up potent and flavorful.  This would be a great iced tea lemonade companion, or a great surprise sweetness in an unconventional cocktail.  I had to pucker up and kiss this tea goodbye after I blew through my sample size.  Order a good size package of this sweet tea, you won’t regret it!

Fairy Dust from Tealish. . . . .

I really love this tea. It is one of my favorite rooibos offerings and I was heartbroken when I ran out, especially because I accidentally forgot to boil the water and wasted the remainder of the leaf by steeping it in cold water. Granted this tea is sold by a Toronto company with a website and a storefront so I had access but I never made it to the store and didn’t have interest in enough teas to hit free shipping. I lucked out though because I came across the Tealish booth at the One of a Kind show which meant I got to replenish my stash of this blend.

At the booth, I noticed this was being marketed as an iced tea. I have only had it as a hot tea, which has a crisp strawberry flavored that is tamed by smooth kiwi flavor. The green rooibos is so mellow that the fruity flavors just shine. It is a great caffeine free option for all seasons when hot but if Tealish recommends icing it, who am I to say no? Plus, it is a summery tea that I imagine would be nice for icing when the weather heats up.

Drinking it now, I would say the iced cup is still refreshing and fruity, but I think I still prefer this tea hot. The flavors are flatter iced, with the strawberry not being as sharp and the kiwi fading into the background. The base is more present which isn’t necessarily bad but the true stars here are the fruit flavors and the overpowering presence of the base is dampening their fruity contribution.

Ultimately I still love this tea and I might ice it if I really want something to cool down with in the summertime but at the end of the day, this excels as a hot cup and I will probably continue to prep it that way in the future.

Tree House of Tea from Adagio Teas. . . . #TeaRex #MonsterBrew #RocketFuel

Beyond the wonderful madness of custom fandom blends on Adagio Teas’ website, they do have a few blends and custom sets of their own.  I tried one of their more whimsical sets, the Tree House series. The vibrant, attractive designs of dinosaurs and monsters on the tins was enough to sway me into giving these teas a try.  The Tree House series are all herbal decaf teas, and meant to be kid-friendly in style, contents, and taste.  Fair warning: these teas brew up strong, fast, so feel free to keep the steep times shorter than you expect.  It’s easy to stop the steep time as these teas are all already in silk, pyramid teabags.

Tea-Rex

This tea smells like Adagio’s Valentine’s blend, though this is a decaf version.  The smell and taste are full of rich cocoa and dark berries.  Even though cherries are a strong element of this blend, it does not taste like medicine.  This tea is dark and full-bodied, almost makes you think it’s a black tea or a mate, but it’s all herbal.  If you’re not into chocolate dessert teas, this might not be your favorite.  But if you’re looking for a decaf version of the Valentine’s blend, this will be a winner.

Monster Brew

In the tin, this tea smells the most distinct from the three teas in Adagio’s Tree House series.  This green rooibos blend focuses on orange and berry.  It’s sweet with raspberry and blueberry flavors, but it never gets too syrupy, thanks to the bright citrus notes.  Smooth, playful, and easy to drink.  This blend has the perfect balance between sweet and sour fruits, and the right balance of a nutty rooibos base with more saturated berry flavors.

Rocket Fuel

The strongest flavors in Rocket Fuel are apple and hibiscus.  The hibiscus is subtle, but present, so don’t worry about it overwhelming the blend, but be cautious if you hate the flavor.  The hibiscus adds pink to the brewed color, and gives a little pucker to this decaf berry blend.  Luckily, there’s enough apple to keep the tea sweet and fresh without getting too tart.  Apple is so often paired with cinnamon and spice, it was nice to just taste the crisp fruit and its natural sweetness.

This set is a great gift for a young tea-drinker, or a lover of fruity-decaf teas.  Or just a nice gift to yourself– the colorful, illustrated tins will brighten anyone’s tea shelf!

A Cookie Tea With A Green Rooibos Base from Simpson and Vail. . . .

I only recently found out about Simpson and Vail. I have really loved each tea ive tried from them. I’m not usually a huge fan a rooibos though. For me, it is almost always a little too “woody” tasting. However, I couldn’t resist getting a little bit of the Caramel Walnut Shortbread Rooibos. Doesn’t it sound divine? Like, I am now debating making a caramel walnut shortbread cookie because the combination just sounds so yummy!

Last night I was up until 4 a.m with my little one. I have an (almost) 8 month old daughter and I don’t know if it’s maybe the whole daylight savings thing or what, but she has been up at all hours of the night and refusing to sleep. Because of my lack of sleep I was dying for a nap, but of course I needed to make a cup of tea first. This was the perfect time to try out a yummy new rooibos blend, as rooibos is naturally caffeine free!

The smell of the dry blend is totally cookies. Caramel cookies with a hint of nuttiness! Even my boyfriend was like “WOW that smells good.” He could smell it from across the kitchen soon as I opened the tin! Super yum. I brewed this tea for about 7 minutes with near boiling water and added just a pinch of agave to bring out the flavors and sweeten it up just a bit.

The smell of the brewed liquid is definitely still caramel and cookies with undertones of nuts and the woody rooibos. However, upon tasting this tea I was surprised that it was pleasantly smooth and did not have that wood-taste that usually comes with rooibos. The rooibos was mellow and just in the background. Caramel cookies and nuttiness was definitely in the forefront. This was a great after-dinner/dessert blend. It evokes the sense of comfort and makes me want to curl up on the couch with a fuzzy blanket and a good book. Definitely worth trying!

Description

Featuring another delicious caffeine-free addition to our Dessert Tea line. This new blend was easy for us to agree on. This Green Rooibos blend brews to an amber cup with a nutty, buttery taste and deep caramel overtones. A delectable brew that needs no sweeteners.

When I asked Jim for his feedback on this blend he gave it to me along with this “4 out of 4 people recommend this. I know usually it’s 4 out 5 but we didn’t like the 5th person’s comments so we threw his results out and him in the quarry”. I think this caffeine free blend might be just what Jim needs this afternoon!

Ingredients: Organic Green Rooibos, flavoring, safflower blossoms, and orange blossoms.
