Sijichun / Fong Mong

Using a Yixing clay tea pot along with an aroma cup set in order to fully extract all the greatness from this tea. It has a 6 minute steep, though I highly suggest taking sips along the way till you reach that point as you will find the flavor profile will change. The dry leaves are beautifully rolled and curled with a mix of lighter and darker greens. As the leaves unravel in the water you can see the care that was taken to make sure to only pluck the most tender and attractive leaves. So far, through three steepings and many sips at different times throughout, the mineral flavor remains constant while the vegetal flavor seems to appear more as you steep. The mouth feel is very silky and leaves an after taste that is somewhat reminiscent of butter with spinach.

Tsui Yu Taiwan Floral (Jade) Oolong Tea from Fong Mong. . . .

You can always count on Fong Mong for exceptional Oolongs. The aroma cup reveals some wonderful vanilla and orchid notes in the aroma as it is steeping. A strange very very slight bit of asparagus hit the back of my tongue as I was sipping. This is not a tea for those who prefer strong teas. The flavors of this one are incredibly light. There are definitely some floral notes but if you swish it around in your mouth a bit you will also discover unique vegetable and herb notes. Be it ever so slight.

Gaoshanchi Taiwan Fushoushan High Mt. Oolong (Wulong) from Fong Mong Tea

This is another great oolong from Fong Mong Tea.

You guys this company has produced some amazing teas. From the first sniff after opening the package to the last drop descending your throat everything shouts exceptional tea.

The moment I opened the package and smelled the slightly sweet marine and mineral notes I knew it was a lightly oxidized oolong. And then of course you look at the tightly rolled, dark green leaves and you know, yup that is definitely an oolong.

When the water is poured over the leaves it gives off a vegetal smell. Which is slightly amusing because if you pick up the cup to smell it 5 seconds later …. you don’t smell it.

Quite interesting. It has a smooth mouth feel with mineral, vegetal, and a few hints of grassy notes.

Description

Gaoshanchi, Fushoushan High Mountain Oolong Tea is one of the most unique and highest quality Oolong from Taiwan. Grown in the estate of Fushoushan Farm at Top Pear Mountains of Taiwan, this tea is harvested at the elevation of 2200 meters above in an isolated area (Almost the highest tea estate in Taiwan.). Due to the cold weather and relatively harsh environments, the plants grow at a very slow rate and in small quantity. The tea is either harvested during the winter or spring and sometimes only once during the entire year. After the harvest, the leaves are carefully handled and aerated during the long ride to the nearest trusted tea producer. Despite the difficult growing conditions, the tea results in thick and full body leave with high fragrance which reminds of smelling the phytoncide and foggy air while climbing a high mountain, thus which is being selected as the highest quality of Oolong.

Hongyu Hongcha from Fong Mong Tea. . . .

The wet leaf has the most interesting smell.

So much so that I am having trouble being able to put a descriptor to it.

Perhaps its hints of eucalyptus in mahogany sawdust in a mixture of compost and wet leaves.

It’s such a complex aroma! Somewhat medicinal as well but not in a bad way. A silky mouth feel and dark, clear amber in color.

Quite an earthy tea. The aroma carries over into the after taste but the first time the liquid hits your tongue a full force of earthy flavors assault you.

I’m not really sure I would say it’s minty like their website describes but it does have that slight mouth clean sensation that mint gives you.
