I’m pretty stoked to review this particular tea because I’m about 5 boxes into this particular one, so I’m fairly confident about the recommendation I’m about to make based on the 100 cups of it I’ve already had.
I got this tea originally to try to replace the Numi kind that I liked a lot but I’m not made of money so I had to find other options if I wanted to drink jasmine green on the reg.
I really like green tea, and especially jasmine green. I think it’s super good with Asian food, and I usually try to drink my greens with food because they tend to be a little bit hard on my stomach and make me nauseated.
The thing about greens is that if you get a bad one they can be astringent and sometimes the jasmines can be hard to balance right. Too little and you miss it, too much and it gets bitter. I had a fancy white tea with jasmine that was called something like Dragon Phoenix Pearl Jasmine and if you didn’t be super careful with the steep then it got to be a bit too much for me. It smelled great, though.
This one is a dainty green with a noticeable, but not overpowering or bitter jasmine flavor. You get a little green and also a little jasmine. This is definitely not a strong green, if you really like your greens to punch you in the face then this is not it. This one is nice and also super easy because you can buy it in bags at the grocery store so it’s a cinch to keep around. It comes in a papery bag but I don’t find it gives the tea a papery flavor, which is a thing I notice with this type of bags sometimes. I put a lemon slice in a lot of the time and that’s very good too. I never add sweetener or milk. I use the 176°F setting on my kettle for my greens but I’m lazy and don’t remove the bag after the steep.
Taylors is in the UK import section at Harris Teeter so it’s kind of expensive, whereas at Lowes Foods it’s just slapped in the regular tea section and it’s more regular tea price and also goes on sale sometimes, so if you’re looking for it just be mindful of that if you see it’s $7 or something and that seems shocking, it can run from $4.50-$7.50 per box of 20 bags depending on where you buy it.
