Fava’s French Breakfast Superior Black Tea from Fava Tea. . . .

This uniquely flavored black tea features vanilla, pineapple, and cherry.

The dry leaf smells like it was doused with caramel and is is quite pretty with its pop of red and orange amid the black tea leaves. The liquid color is a clear, dark amber and the smell of caramel is strong with this one as well. Vanilla and caramel are the predominate flavors.

The pineapple and cherry flavors do not present themselves at all but instead seem to make the sweetness of the caramel flavor stand out.

The black base hides well but I do get hints here and there that make me wonder if the base is English Breakfast.

Oh aren’t we a sneaky tea?

Pistachio Orange Pu Erh from Fava Tea Company

Everyone where I work sniffed this bag and declared the scent heavenly. It smells like a tray of cookies. Nutty and sweet and a little zesty.

And it TASTES LIKE THAT, TOO. You guys. This was the Find Of The Week.

This is Mrs-Claus-in-a-tea. Imagine the prototypical grandma, with an army of tiny elf children assisting and getting the sprinkles and sugar everywhere. She is baking and listening to Jackson 5 and shimmying that caboose all around. Outside, the reindeer are watching through frosted windows. Rudolph is in the forefront, glowing like the attention-grabber he is. He knows that ol’ Mrs Claus can’t resist that round red nose. (She loves round red things! The nose reminds her of Santa!) She’ll be out with freshly-baked cookies for him as soon as they’re out of the oven and cooled.

Is there more tea like this in Fava’s workshop? I promised myself I’d stop buying tea until I wrap up the samples I have now… but I’m tempted to try a few more of Fava’s blends.

Cherry Green and Black from Fava Tea. . . .

I tried this tea hot, went “meh, this is kind of tart for me,” and put it away.

Fast forward something crazy like two months, and I decided to try it iced. NOWWWW I’m on board, guys. The mix of hibiscus flower, apple bits, orange peel, safflowers, & sour cherries was overpowering at a higher temperature, but iced? It goes from abrasive to spunky.

The hibiscus and cherry swirl together to form that sassy friend who has tons of gossip about everyone you know. They’re so charming that you almost forget that they’re totally telling everyone what you’re saying to them.

I recommend trying this iced. It might even taste good as the base for a mixed drink. I feel like you could throw a little SoCo or flavored vodka in here and get the party started. Maybe get the gals together and start some sassy whispering.

White Chocolate Tiramisu from Fava Tea. . . .

I accidentally left this in the steeper far too long — which you aren’t supposed to do with green — but it’s still really tasty, so that’s a sublimely positive thing for us scatterbrained tea enthusiasts.

This tea tastes like white chocolate, nuts, and caramel. It’s supposed to taste like Tiramisu, but I’m not sure I’m getting that. Tiramisu, to me, mostly has coffee notes. That said, who cares, a tasty tea is a tasty tea. This is SO creamy and delicious and sweet. It’s a slick mouth-feel (ew, the phrase “mouth-feel” is horrible) that really coats the inside of the mouth.

I feel like I’m in a French patisserie with this tea. Everything is Marie Antoinette pastel. I have a tiny purebred dog upon my lap. My pinky is up. I’m with all of my friends. We’re wearing blush and having a scintillating conversation that focuses on fine arts and gossip.

We might enjoy ourselves so much that we oversteep the tea. But that’s okay. This tea doesn’t mind.

Green Caramel from Fava Tea. . . . .

Although this tea may sound simple, green tea and caramel flavor, it is actually quite complex! Not only does this blend include sencha green tea, but it also includes genmaicha, which is green tea and toasted/popped rice! Along with the green tea there is rooibos, cocoa pieces, caramel pieces, pineapple cubes, almond pieces, and marigold blossoms! Isn’t that quite a medley? Names can be deceiving and I am glad that I read the ingredient list because honestly it sounds delicious.

And it is delicious! The green teas are toasty, nutty, smooth and vegetal. The rooibos adds a little bit of an extra nuttiness. The cocoa pieces are there, but just barely gives a small hint of cocoa. The caramel is of course smooth and sweet and creamy. The almond adds to the nuttiness! All of them together create a yummy, healthy, and energizing blend that is reminiscent of caramel popcorn sprinkled with almonds and cocoa powder! I really enjoyed it.
