Masala Chai Black Tea from The Tea Obsession. . . .

My taste buds have started it seems.  I used to be all about the sweet dessert like teas but lately I have wanted a more spicy kick.  This tea was the perfect answer to my after dinner tea with my stepsons the other night.

In the past, I have steered away from Masala Chai blends but after having this one, I think I need to be a bit more open minded.  Right out of the pouch this tea greets you with that familiar warming spice blend that warms you to your toes.  My stepsons saw I was brewing up a chai and instantly got their mugs ready to go.  So I added in more of the tea blend to my tea pot, added my fresh prepped water, and started to steep the tea.

While the tea was brewing, I added some cream to my Breville Frother, a dash of cinnamon, brown sugar, and maple syrup.  My stepsons are used to drinking a more sugary chai and I thought this would be the perfect way to accomplish that- thru the frothed topping.

Once my alarm went off that the tea was steeped, I added the heavenly spiced brew to each of our mugs, topped each cup with a good dose of the sweet frothed topping, and then sprinkled a dash of allspice to the top.  In my cup, I added a cinnamon stick and a sprinkle of ground ginger.

First sip in, I was in heaven! This tea delivers all of the heat I was looking for along with the spicy finish I was craving.  The black pepper finish is truly my favorite part of this tea-giving this tea that welcomed kick while the chai flavors deliver a subtle yet well balanced sweet and spicy note.  The black tea is more in the background on this tea but that is to be expected when there are so many different inclusions and spices in the mix.

The creamy frothed topping may have been an overkill for me with the sweetness but my stepsons gobbled their servings up and asked for more.

I couldn’t have been happier for this first experience with The Tea Obsession.  For a 4oz  pouch of this tea, the price is about right.  They offer their teas if a few different size options but I didn’t see any sample sizes.  I wish that was an option.  I personally have a couple hundred teas in my tea stash.  So adding a 4 oz of anything takes serious commitment but adding a 1oz or a sample package is more what I look for now.  But seeing how much my stepsons loved this tea, I may make an exception for them.  Plus they do offer a Mapple Taffy Black Tea that I used to buy from another tea company that is no longer in business. Maybe there is a possible order coming in my future.
