I love teas that have been designed and blended for a special occasion or reason. Birthday teas make me happy and it’s fitting to drink this one as it’s my birthday today! There are a few broken, tiny sprinkles in the tea which I love, but I would’ve liked a bit more. They look bright and festive against the jet black tea leaves.
The scent of this tea reminds me of 52Teas’ Pancake Breakfast. I’m smelling something like maple syrup. Sipping, however, is a different story. It doesn’t taste like pancakes or syrup, but more like caramel or vanilla instead. I don’t pick up on much of the cream that is included in this blend. It’s hard to separate the vanilla and caramel, so it’s sort of a vague sweetness. The black tea base doesn’t taste spectacular in that it’s a little astringent. It also lacks depth in its flavor notes, but I care more about the caramel and vanilla at this point. I think that this base could definitely stand up to sugar and milk, though the sugar might push the sweetness over the edge a little.
If you’re looking for a sweet dessert tea that would pair well with milk and sugar, Birthday from Adagio is a great choice. It would also make a great gift for anyone’s birthday!
