I love the idea of pears in teas more than my experience with them in the past. For some reason, I always detect something artificial and medicinal.. I think it might just be from the pear flavoring, unfortunately. I do well with pear jelly beans and candies, but the pear flavoring in tea bothers me. The scent of this tea is reassuring as it’s a nice balance of sweet pear and a rather woody rooibos. I’m really hoping that this pear lives up to its benign scent.
Sipping… wow, this is a little strange. When I take a sip of this tea, it’s almost like biting into a juicy pear. I taste pieces of tangy skin and the sweet, pale insides.. it almost gives you that prickly mouthfeel. As quickly as it appears, the pear is snapped away and replaced with the mild rooibos. I don’t mind this as I love rooibos, but I really wish that pear would stick around longer! The combination of the pear and rooibos in this cup works very well. There is the slightest hint of that artificial quality, but it’s not enough to stop me from finishing the cup.
I’m not sure that I would repurchase this in the future, only because I have to be in the mood for a pear tea and that craving doesn’t hit me that often. As far as pear teas go, this is a top choice especially for those who love rooibos.
