I’m not someone who will go crazy for an Earl Grey, but will politely take a cup if offered. The type of Earl Grey that I like typically has some other creamy element added – cream or vanilla flavoring/pods. This addition usually takes the edge off the bergamot. I was excited to see that there was raspberry added to this Earl Grey blend. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a raspberry version before, but the scent lead me to believe that it was going to be something special. It smelled of juicy, sweet raspberry – I couldn’t wait to sip!
The best part of this blend is that the raspberry comes through not just in scent, but in flavor. The raspberry is sweet and not artificial. It works really well with the black tea base. It seems like the “Earl Grey” bit comes out after the raspberry. The bitterness from the bergamot transitions into the astringent finish of the black tea. I will say that the black tea base isn’t my favorite, but it does make a drinkable cup. I wish that there was a bit more body… it just seems a little thin. I’m sure that this would be terrific iced as well!
This blend is actually no longer available from Plum Deluxe as it was a limited tea, but Plum Deluxe does make what look like other delicious blends including some Earl Grey. I would definitely give them a try!
